Biography

Marica J. Smith is a printmaking student at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
Within her multi-layered prints she uses human and bird imagery to explore the energetic and complex spaces of communication. Birds are legendary messengers, whether through sound or visualization. Her interest is in the alluring expression of that moment. She comes from a multi-racial background- Scottish, African American, German, Manx,
Malagasy and Danish. Smith is a fourth generation Californian, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.
