Susan David
Susan David is a painter and printmaker who grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. Her creations, influenced by theories of the body and the symbolic nature of water, are an exploration of the “underwater self” and play with themes of violence and destruction, madness and vulnerability, in conjunction with the human form. The language, execution and “unfinished” quality of Susan’s works reinforce this aesthetic of violence and vulnerability. The canvas and paper used are ragged, weathered and traumatized in sharp contrast to her figures, floating in a surreal, seductive state of resignation.
